Plain Wisdom
Plain Wisdom by Cindy Woodsmall, Miriam Flaud
Since I read the Sisters of the Quilt series, Cindy Woodsmall has been one of my favorite authors. Her books suck you in and this one was no exception. We learn how she became friends with Miriam Flaud, a member of the Old Order Amish and they take turns sharing stories and scripture. Recipes are also offered throughout and I must say I was shocked to read that the Amish used things like Bisquick and Cool Whip. I thought, “Surely this was just the ‘EZ’ version of what the Amish normally make.” Then again, different districts have different rules, right?
Though the two worlds are different, this book shows the wonderful similarities that create a powerful bond between the two women.
There was one particular part which I felt was speaking to me directly: “One little deed done in time is worth more than a thousand good intentions.” We’ve all said it:
I meant to, but…
I was going to…
I meant to, but…
I was going to…
Oh, and here’s one. I didn’t have time. Perhaps we could have prioritized better? We MAKE time. I love that quote so much, I have it printed and posted where I’ll see it daily. How wonderful it is to have a positive daily reminder to appreciate what we do get done because it’s worth so much more than any of our intentions.
Disclosure: I was provided a FREE copy of this book through WaterbrookMultnomah in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not obligated to provide favorable feedback.
